Friendship, Nadya Raessa, Our Little Family

Goodbye Raya!

So last weekend marks the end of our Raya celebration for 2016! It has been exhausting! The first two weeks were spent going around relatives houses.

2016-07-16 13.54.242016-07-16 14.04.182016-07-16 14.27.44We wore last year’s baju! Nadya can still fit in her 6-month old dress. It’s a perfect fit!  My baju was ketat though. Malas lah eh nak cakap. Lol.

We hosted some of Nadya’s friends over at our place! It was so fun but honestly so chaotic as well! Hahahaha. So many kids all over the place. mana yang terpekik, yang nangis, yang gaduh. Lol . But kids are kids ah. Janji they’re not in a compromising situation, gasak korang lahhh.

Last Friday was the gathering for the HK girls. It’s our yearly routine. No matter how busy, we’ll meet up for Raya at someone’s house so we can just spend the whole time there instead of moving from one place to another.

12Ma3Mad love for these girls! Can’t believe it’s been 20 years now!

The next day, we went over to Farhana’s place to meet up with the bloggirls and their babies! Ermahgerddddd so many cutie patooties, my ovaries can’t handle it. Hahahaha

The following day, right after my sister’s wedding, we went to the final Open house invitation at Hosni & Nini’s place with the Terminal Cry family.

And that’s it for this year Raya! All baju kurung dah nak kena ziplock somewhere already!
Said it before and i’m gonna say it again. Raya this year was exhausting but fun. All because of Nadya! ❤

Say Mummy!

I’ve been trying so hard to make Nadya call me Mummy. To no avail. It’s always Mama-mama-mama. I mean i’ll give her A for effort ah but i won’t settle for Mama. Gotta be Mummy, honey.

So i’ve been saying Mummy-Mummy-Mummy repeatedly to her few weeks back and then she’s started calling me Bi instead. Until last week.
She called me Bubi. Which really really sounds like oink-oink obviously and she won’t stop calling me that!

The other day we went to Bukit Panjang Plaza and she wanted something from the display at the store and called out loud “Bubi!!!”. I swear the makcik in front of her looks so horrified! Mesti dia ingat aku ajar anak aku mencarut. I don’t know mana to sembunyikan muka aku seh.

From then on, each time Nadya calls me Bubi, i go “No… No..No.. it’s ok… Mama! Say Mama!” Kesian anak aku confused. Tak tau nak panggil mak dia apa.

Yes baby, Mama will do. Say Mamaaaaaaa.
Let’s forget the Bubi, shall we? Nanti dah besar sikit, i teach u again say Mummy ok.

Eid Mubarak 2016

Selamat Hari Raya!

Wanted to draft this much much earlier but i was caught up with work & also trying to chillax a bit and catch up drama serials.

This Raya is our 2nd Raya with Nadya! Her 1st Raya, she was only 6mths old and it was easy peasy cos she was still in that sleepy stage. This year Raya is a circus! Hahaha

Now that Nadya can walk & move around on her own, we’ve decided not to hias the house so much. We left the cookie jar on the dining table and kept away the coffee table away.

1

Even then, she’ll panjat the chairs and try and reach for the cookies. Her favourites are the choc chip ones and honey cornflakes. Sometimes we’ll both sit on the couch, watch TV and eat the cookies from the cookie jar. hee

We wore Black for the 1st day and i love the baju kurung that Nadya wore! We got it from a Malaysian designer cos i forgot to make one for her in Black. Wthhhh.

Raya this year was quite disorientated for me cos of the Sampul Raya & Dear Raessa Raya collection which went well despite some hiccups! But yes, everything also last minute. I bought kuih from some random makcik stall 2 days before Raya because i forgot to order from the usual kakak. I miss her Cornflakes cookies seh!

Even Nadya’s baju raya was mostly the samples i made for Dear Raessa.
Then i see whichever yang fit her and also check Rusly’s baju raya inventory and then buy something that i can match. Jadilah kan.

I love how comfortable this Maroon Kurung is! So easy to move and by the 2nd Shawal, pretty obvious i tak kuasa to wear heels and wore my Fit Flops. I swear that thing is used to death.

It is not funny ok to try and run after your toddler with heels.
But at least this year we made do without a Diaper Bag besar nak mampos macam nak balik kampung. Last year we had to bring her milk formulas and lotsa diapers. Extra clothes lah, rattles lah. Eh macam khazanah lah.

Now that she’s on Fresh Milk Feed and she don’t ask for milk that much, we just buy Meiji Fresh Milk outside and serve it to her with a straw. So the only thing we bring are her diapers, wetwipes & waterbottle. Usually can fit in my own bag ah. Else i’ll get Rusly to bring the Jujube Quick. Lol.

2016 Family Picture with a new addition!
We’ll have another new family member next year cos my youngest sister is getting married next week! Actually ahhh… I think i haven’t even blogged about my 2nd sister wedding pun.

So many things to blog & document but no time!
But Selamat Hari Raya everyone. Would also like to take this opportunity to seek forgiveness for any unhappiness i’ve caused unintentionally. ❤

The Work-At-Home Momma

I’m a work-at-home mom and i know many would go “You’re so lucky. It’s the ideal arrangement.”

No it’s not. I’m telling you it’s not.

Just like being a SAHM or FTWM, we WAHM have our own guilt too. It does seem like we have the best of both worlds cos we get to earn money and see our kids throughout the day but really if you ask me, it’s the worst of both worlds.

It was horrendous the last 2 months. I was buried deep in work, mainly because of the Sampul Raya. I went all out this year and Alhamdulillah, it was a success. My bank account is fat & happy. Can’t say the same for Nadya though.

She knows i’m busy (and ignoring her) and it makes me feel really bad! Being a work at home mom means seeing lots of your child but ignoring them most of the time cos u have a deadline. It’s nice to be able to cuddle with her in the morning and not have to rush my shower so i can feed her breakfast before going to work etc.

But if only u can see the many times i had to get her off my lap cos she’s banging her little fingers on my keyboard. Or that time i had to lock myself in the room for a while cos she was screaming while i was on a call and i can’t hear a word the other party is saying cos i’m trying to figure out what she’s screaming for. Does she want milk? Or is it her naptime? Whaaaat it’s 2.00pm?! It’s her naptime! No wonder she’s screaming!

Or when she pulls my hands cos she wants me to play with her in the playpen and i had to reject the offer cos i’ve to submit an artwork by 4pm in order to make it for that day’s printing.

When i made that decision to work from home, ideally it would be to only work during her naptimes. But toddlers, they just don’t nap as much anymore!! You’ll be lucky if they can nap once in the day for 2-3 hours. I keep telling her “I’m sorry i have to work. Can u please play on your own?”

That’s like me telling her “Please just leave me the hell alone. I need to work.” I feel bad about it all the time. I just hope Nadya don’t grow up thinking that i don’t want to be with her cos i keep shutting her out. It’s really sad if you think about it. Having your mom constantly there but refusing to play with you. Aaargh. My poor girl.

Sometimes i do let go of everything i do and i can feel her trying as much as she can to get as much attention as she can get from me because she knows it won’t be long till i return to my laptop and finish up work or cook lunch & dinner.

I’m not saying that the FTWM have it easier. Yes you don’t get to see your child for most of the day and that sucks especially if you get back home late and it’s already their bedtime. But at least you don’t have to reply emails, handle clients with a child screaming for your attention at the back or chop2 make lunch just in time before they nap else they’ll miss their lunch and then get very cranky when they wake up. At least they get 1 hour of uninterrupted lunch and if you have an annoying colleague, you can tell them to go away and not feel as bad as telling your child to go away.

Being a SAHM is not easy too and it’s also tiring to be looking after your child all the time. I can feel them counting the hours to their nap times just so they can escape and have some me-time like go to the toilet without an audience for once! I mean just how much child-talk can u handle a day? Don’t forget about the mess they make! Oh God! But at least they don’t have deadlines. They don’t have to worry about unhappy clients. They don’t have to choose between work & their child. It’s the child all the way.

WAHM gotta choose. It’s between chasing deadlines or playing with your child. So the next time you see a WAHM, don’t tell them they have the best of both worlds. I can hear them screaming at the thought of it. There is no such thing as an ideal arrangement once you’re a mom.

At the end of the day, i just hope when Nadya is older, she remembers the day we went swimming. Or the finger painting exercise we did. That busy board i painstakingly did for her. The gym classes i sent her and the many laughs that we share.

Not the part where i constantly tell her to go away. Please don’t.
But if she does remember, i hope she’ll understand that i did it because i had to. Not because i want to.

Enjoy your baby!

Having one of those tough day today. U either fight with your baby and try desperately to make her sleep. Or u fight with your husband because of your baby.

Either way it’s tiring.

And then i saw this article and all i wanna do now is wake Nadya up so i can play with her.
I am so so confused. I’m tired and i want to sleep but i can’t wait for morning to arrive so i can snuggle with her again.

12 ways to enjoy your baby right now.

  1. Lay your baby on the bed and push your chin lightly on their chest. If they are of the giggling age, they love this.
  2. Let your spouse hold your baby and walk to the other side of the room. Your baby will take the proper perspective, so so tiny.
  3. Hold your baby to your chest with his cheek to your cheek. Close your eyes, and memorize his milky smell.
  4. When you hear the little pitter patter of feet (or knees and hands), close your eyes and listen closely. Soon it’ll be a thing of the past.
  5. Hold the baby on your hip and stand in front of the mirror. Marvel at the way you are made. Your hip won’t be a seat much longer.
  6. Put one of your baby’s shoes on the palm of your hand and hold it up. Chubby feet don’t last forever.
  7. Lie on your back and put your baby on your belly. Belly to belly time. It’s the perfect position for lots of kisses.
  8. With your baby in the seated position, put your hands around their rib cage and see if your thumbs touch. Feel those tiny ribs?
  9. Squeeze their cheeks. On both ends. Has skin ever felt so soft?
  10. Find a phrase just for you and your baby. When I feed my baby I always say, “Are you hungry? I made milky in my heart for you!” High Nausea, I know.
  11. Find where your baby is ticklish and have a tickle fest.
  12. Have a staring contest with your baby. Try looking into your baby’s eyes from a few inches away and not have a melted heart.

These days are hard. They are overwhelming. They are challenging. But most of all, they are short.

Nadya Raessa, Our Little Family

three

We managed to go out jalan-jalan last sunday. A full day outing instead of a “singgah sini jap after an errand”.

Started the day with Nadya’s private pool party! lol
It’s really private cos dia sorang je muat masuk pool tu anyway. She’s been taking the pool out so many times, i’m sure she really miss getting in it.

IMG_5761IMG_5768

We had Mcdonald’s for brunch and i took a long shower, did my makeup, snapchatted the entire thing and she was still sleeping. If only she’s like this all the time.

2016-05-22 17.18.332016-05-22 17.25.31

Our OOTD! Nadya is back to wearing headbands!
We kinda snipped off her fringe cos it was poking in her hair eyes and now it’s too short and cos she’s got straight as a ruler hair, she really look like a boy lah. But then again, luckily she got straight hair! I grew up with wavy hair and hated it so much. hahaha.
When i was pregnant with her, i kept praying and hoping, she’ll get Rusly’s straight hair. I forgot to add that hopefully it’ll be all thick like Rusly’s as well. In the end she has Rusly straight hair with my fine hair texture. hahaha. ok lah fair enough. Eh panjang lebar pulak pasal rambut.

DSC064332016-05-22 17.04.13We went to the playground while Rusly go and fetch the car. As usual she loves the slides & the stairs. I think she just like climbing in general. Can climb all day err day.

2016-05-22 18.31.25-12016-05-22 18.31.06

We went to Wheelock to get Rusly’s crazy lens for his gig this weekend and then to Sephora ION! Weeeeeeee.

We were going around ION, trying to look for a place we can have our dinner but it was packed everywhere! So we moved away from town and i thought it’ll be a good time to go to Pasarbella Suntec and try Cajun on Wheels!

DSC06446IMG_5840

We got the Poseidon Bucket ($108.00) which serves 2-3.
It is quite ex but i love seafood so i find it worth it ah. Too bad the Sambal belacan sauce was out of stock so we chose the Salted Egg sauce which was nice but i really wish i had the Sambal Belacan one instead. Lol. Padahal tak pernah rasa sambal belacan sauce dia camana. Lol. Not sure if we’ll come back though! It’s really hard to get seats on weekend and not exactly baby friendly. I think there were only few baby chairs. Luckily we brought the stroller along.

DSC06470

We ended dinner quite late and i was feeling like a bad mom cos Nadya is still out & about so late at night but i saw this picture just now and i thought screw all bedtime rules. Nadya look so happy here. They grow up really fast and sleep is for the weak. Hahahhaah. ok i take that back. Nadya need to sleep cos i need to do work. Lol

I love weekends like this. Especially if it involves us three. ❤

Motherhood, Our Little Family

Mummy’s Day

Mother’s Day! Overrated for some people and I know some people will go “I don’t celebrate Mother’s Day. Everyday is Mother’s Day” and that is so damn cliche. When you’re a mum, even if you don’t want a full-on celebration, maybe a free pass of housework pun jadi lah. Seriously.

And also some who said “Why make a fuss over Mother’s Day when u don’t treat her nice / post pictures of her every other day?”

ALL THE MORE U SHOULD CELEBRATE MOTHER’S DAY!
Kau dah lah perangai serupa Tanggang. Hari2 harap kan mak kau jaga makan pakai kau. Then cannot just take one day to celebrate & appreciate her meh? Facebook kau takde space ke nak letak 1 gambar of your mum for just one day?

And then those yang cakap Mother’s Day tu haram. I just don’t want to start, really.
So much angst over a Mother’s Day post eh? Hahahaha.

We spent Mother’s Day with dinner at Carousel, just the three of us! My little family. ❤

13100952_10154190523508656_8048375591375289665_nDSC0613813177133_10154190797543656_5594244012754345194_n

Also i think Nadya enjoyed stuffing herself silly! Took a video of her stuffing her little mouth with food.

I gave her mostly boiled prawns, steamed chicken from the chicken rice counter, steamed fish, some pastas, breads & even gave her a dessert treat! My daughter is so gagah.

DSC06159DSC06140DSC06179DSC06157DSC06193

I love the food from Carousel! Although i can no longer stuff myself as much as dulu. No idea why. So i took really small portions of everything.

2016-05-17 20.49.52

Carousel was really thoughtful to place a photobooth area for that day so we took the chance to take one and yes we’re the kind of people who hates wearing ridiculous wigs and holding up cheesy boards so we always end up taking boring pictures at photobooth. Hahahaha.

I had fun that day spending time with two people i really love and care for and here’s a video i uploaded on Instagram that i can recycle here. Hahahahaha

Motherhood, Our Little Family, The Husband & Wife

husbands

Never underestimate your husbands. I know we always complain them guys are always clueless about everything. But sometimes they really do surprise you. Little things that you thought they won’t notice, they actually do.

I’ve never openly declared love for anything Hazelnut-flavoured although it’s quite obvious i would always choose Hazelnut over Cocoa flavoured.

Sometimes, when i tell Rusly to buy home some chocolates and i don’t specify anything in particular, he’ll come home with Kinder Bueno / Kit Kat Chunky in Hazelnut. It’s not exactly my favourite but i think Rusly realized i always reach out for them.

and then sometimes, without me asking, i’ll find a random Kinder Bueno in the fridge. No sweet notes or whatever. Just plain ol’ Kinder Bueno staring back at me and that to me is super sweet. No pun intended.

I’m sure all husbands do this. Antara kita sedar ke tak je.
And then when u enter into motherhood, sometimes it’s really easy to overlook the small things your husband do and just dismiss them as ‘not helpful‘ cos we feel like we do much more than them. Which is true to a certain extent but how do u measure all these and do we seriously gotta be calculative in everything we do in marriage?

Yesterday, i needed a nap badly cos it was so hot and i’ve been sleeping at 3.00 am and waking up by 7+am cos the budak kecik suka2 bangun siang these days. I woke up from a 2hr nap with the laundry all done and my husband feeding Nadya her dinner.

I’m just thankful for this guy. No qualms about doing housework. It’s not a woman’s thing. It’s just plain housework. Does not matter who do it. It just had to be done.

Beauty & Skincare

Morphe!

So i got my Morphe brushes the other day! It was such a pleasant experience so i have to tell u about it! Been seeing Morphe brushes in some youtube videos but recently a friend asked if i might want to order but cos her palette was oos, we didn’t but i really wanted to get the brushes so i googled for a local online store who might carry it and turns out Coma Makeup does!

They sell various brands in their website including Morphe and not the kind where everything also out of stock. They have ready stock for most of the brushes! The price is off course higher than the original price but if u exclude the Shipping price and also the waiting time, i think it’s worth paying slightly more. If you subscribe to their newsletter, u’ll get a 10% discount code!

IMG_4761

Don’t you love it when your purchases are packaged nicely like this! So here’s what i got. All pictures from Coma.

M441

M441 – PRO FIRM BLENDING CREASE – $15.00
I love fluffy crease eyeshadow brush like this. I love my Sigma ones and this is just as good. Great to blend blend blend your crease area.

M523_1024x1024

M523 – TAPERED POWDER – $26.00
I LOVE THIS ONE! I use this for my contouring and by far the best contour brush. Not too fat and not too thin!

E4_1024x1024

E4 – ANGLED CONTOUR – $24.00
I use this for my blusher and so far so good. It’s about the same as my Mac one, but cheaper. Lol

Morphe_Brushes_-_G4_40008c6a-3cda-45f6-91e2-f595c07f37a1_1024x1024

G4- ANGLED BRUSH – $25.00

I’m still undecided if i like this one. I bought this to use as a loose powder brush but i think it’ll be better as a buffer brush instead.

M439_1024x1024

M439 – DELUXE BUFFER – $24.00
If you use liquid foundation, you need to get this!! I love this one.
I’m used to applying my liquid foundation with the beauty blender but i’ve found a new love. This applies foundation beautifully! I use less product with this brush cos the bristles retain products pretty well and i can do a medium coverage pretty well with this.

If you spend above $50, you get free express courier and i received my order the next day!

Are u sick of reading about makeup already cos i have Colourpop & Dose of Colors lipstick in the other day and they’re beautiful. Lol.

The Travel Tales

New York Planning I

After getting the tickets and getting a little excited (and even starting to plan what to wear there semua), i stopped planning the New York trip last week cos i was so busy. But this week i’m back to thinking about the trip and i don’t even know where to start. Lol.

Itinerary
I gotta start doing a rough draft based on the number of days we have and the proximity of the places etc. I want to do a rough itinerary 1st before deciding on the New York Pass cos i’m not sure how many days we’ll need to cover the main attractions i wanna see.

Anyway, the New York pass also no hurry sangat cos it’s available all the time. I probably will wait for one of their Holidays cos sure got some promo. They had a Mother’s Day Promo the other time and i’m sure they’ll have another one soon.

Accommodation
Still undecided on Hotels or AirBnb although as usual i’m more inclined towards the latter cos of space issues. To be honest the prices between Hotels & Airbnbs in New York, not much difference cos Airbnb rates are pretty much at the $300+ range. But space wise, a LOT of difference. New York Hotels are really tiny. While i know we can’t afford to have a baby cot in it, we’re hoping for at least a King Bed or a couch in the room. Cos during our trip to Japan, Rusly preferred sleeping on the sofa bed instead cos really korang, Nadya takes up a lot of bed space. I’m not kidding. Then we have two massive luggages and a hand-carry and a stroller. I doubt we’ll have space to move around. Cos even the small studio apartment we had in Japan pun cukup makan. The New York hotels look even tinier! Lol

We kinda set a budget of max S$350 per night for accommodation and i think that’s a decent amount lah. We can get Row NYC with that budget definitely and if we ever decide on hotels, i think Row NYC would be our 1st choice due to it’s price and location.

Location pun satu masalah actually. I really want to be in Times Square cos u know, it’s convenient. (Sephora at my doorstep kind of convenient. Hahaha) but i’m scared of the noise. Not for me & Rusly cos kita memang jenis kebencian mak-mak seluruh dunia. Tido mati, nak bangun pagi pun susah. But Nadya, garbage truck kat bawah rumah kalau pass by, even with windows closed, she will wake up. Or bunyi orang tutup pintu van. So that could pose a problem. I don’t want to handle jet-lag and a baby who can’t sleep at night.

So i’m considering Upper East Side as well which is nearer to Central Park. Also aku leh feeling Gossip Girl cos they’re Upper East Siders. Hahahaha. Although kalau aku berangan nak tinggal macam Penthouse Blair Waldorf or the Palace Hotel, aku anak beranak mengemis tepi jalan after 3 days in NYC. Pretty obvious i’m a GG fan, eh? I’m obsessed over the show. I’m even rewatching it now. You think i can meet Chuck Bass there? Lol

Manhattan-Map

I found this visual Manhattan Map online and thought it’s genius! Great for us to visualise which area to consider staying at and also help us plan our sight-seeing trips better although to be honest i think all the attractions are very close to each other.

So hopefully by the next update, i would have booked the accommodation already and decide on where to go etc!

xoxo
(masih tau nak gossip girl reference. hahahaha)
