#NadyaNomNomNom

If you follow me on social media you would have noticed the hashtag #NadyaNomNomNom. That’s because my baby girl is already on solids!

We started her on solids since she turned 6mths. We let her taste food at 5.5 months just for the fun of it and she always look forward to tasting something!

And then i went searching for Baby 1st food recipes cos i was quite intent on feeding her fresh food. I think it’s just me being very guilty still for not being able to breastfeed her. So i die die want her to eat healthy food. I have nothing against Jar foods. I know of babies who do eat them and still grow healthy. But because time is on my side cos i’m WAHM and it is something that i can take better control of (unlike breastfeeding), then i shall do it for as long as i can!

I didn’t document her first food cos honestly it was pretty boring.
i started with one food at a time. Carrots / Apple / Pumpkin / Butternut Squash etc.

Because she was just starting out, i would do a batch of, say Pureed Carrots and then freeze them in ice cube trays. So each time it’s time to eat, i’ll just pop it out and heat them up before feeding it to her.

Trust me, don’t buy all those fancy schmancy food freezer cubes etc. They’ll just take up too much space in the fridge. Just buy ice cube trays from Daiso, they come with lids so it’s not exposed! Then once baby stop eating purees, at least u can just use them to freeze ice!

Then when she turned 7months and eating her purees well, i started giving her rice porridge, I eliminated cereals from the start cos i don’t find it necessary cos it’s all sugar & processed flour/rice.

From 7months onwards, the only grains i’ve fed her:

  • White Rice
  • Rolled Oats
  • Millets

I would love to try her on Quinoa and Baby Pasta soon!
She loves white rice but i notice each time she eats white rice, her stools are not as smooth. It’s harder than usual . So i try and let her eat rolled oats once a day and now her stools are normal. Smelly still, but normal. Hahahahaha.

P/s: You know you’re a mom when u start talking about stools like how it’s normal to tell people about your breakfast.

So why am i documenting all her makan adventures?

  1. Cos i want to keep track of what she eats. Just in case she had an allergy.
My pregnancy brain is still there somewhere and sometimes i forget what i ate for yesterday’s lunch or did i even eat. So go figure.
  2. I tried looking around for Baby Recipes and to be honest, it’s all quite repetitive until they turn 1 when they start to eat lotsa other things, I don’t want Nadya to be a boring eater so i’m always trying to introduce her new food to eat and with the limited things she can eat, i try and mix & match so she don’t end up eating the same old puree again & again.
  3. I have so many mummy friends who are first time mums and i think they’re just as clueless as me! Sharing her food journey would definitely be useful for them and hopefully bu doing this, i can send the message across that making your own baby food is not that hard & not that time consuming!

How do i prepare her baby food?

When it was just puree, i use the baby blender. Luckily for me, i bought a cheap one! I think only $50.00+  cos Rina told me not to spend too much on baby blender cos they’ll outgrow it really fast. True enough, i stop using it that much after a month. Now i only use the blender part only. But when she starts eating lumpy food, definitely not using it anymore.

Currently i use an Electric Lunch Box to cook her porridge. Really easy cos i don’t have to watch the fire and also cos i can also cook my own food using the ELB. The ELB can be used to cook porridge / rice / soups or normal meals lah so i foresee myself using it till she’s bigger! Cos i’ve been using it to cook my own meals!

Anyway, i will draft another post, the food i’ve prepared for Nadya when she’s 7mths old. I will also have a tab at the top of my blog, documenting food i prepare for Nadya monthly so it’s easier for you to refer to according to age!

I hope it will somehow help and give you ideas on preparing your baby food.
Again, there’s no right or wrong. U can give jar foods or cereal if you want. I’m not judging. It’s your child after all.

But try not to give them food too young. 4 months is too young. Their stomach is not strong yet to digest food. Wait till 6months if you can. After all, your child have an entire lifetime to enjoy food!

Goodbye

So last night after the trip to E’s place to meet the bloggirls and baby Danyal (in another post!), we went back to my parents place.

I had the intention of leaving Nadya in their care while i go down to the shops and then see if she’ll cry. So we went down and i swear my heart was beating really fast. Too scared to hear her screams. I know i would be tempted to go up and scoop her up in my arms. But i read that if u plan to leave, just leave and don’t keep coming back to check on her cos it’ll makr it hard for baby and also my mom.

So i told where i’m going, kissed her and told her i’ll back in a short while to meet her again and said goodbye.

I was half expecting a call from Mum 3minutes later to get my ass back up cos she’s crying but nope. So i walked towards the store.

Still no calls after 15mins. I think we spent 30mins at the supermarket before heading home. My girl was playing with her aunties. She did let out a manja cry when she saw me though. But no meltdowns!

So we tried again today. Rusly need to do some video recording with his 2nd band and i wanna go shop for stuff at Textile Centre and it’s so hazy i don’t wanna bring her outdoors for no reason.

Again, i did the same routine. It’s been 30mins. So far no calls yet. I’m really hoping it was just some beralih bulan thing she always do 1 week before her monthly birthday. Let’s hope it is!

Anxiety

Nadya’s going through some major separation anxiety right now. She cannot let me out of sight else she’ll cry her lungs out. I’m not kidding, it’s so loud i finally know what’s ear-piercing cry sounds like.

It’s so kesian cos i know it’s normal and won’t go away that soon. She’ll still allow u to carry her, play with her and all but the moment she sees me walking away, she’ll scream.

I read up on how to control the situation and it seems that telling her where i’m going and then kiss her before i leave, seems to work sometimes. But at times tak work jugak.

Frirnds who are SAHM told me this period is tiring. Cos we’re the main caregivers and they won’t want anyone else and i gotta agree. It is so tiring. I lost patience few times and then i istigfar because Nadya tak paham apa2 seh.

I think motherhood either will make u a better or horrible person and i hope to be the former.
Nadya won’t allow Rusly to carry her if i’m not around. Neither can my parents so i’m guessing we won’t be leaving her at their place as often as we used to.

I can’t even shower without her crying. So Rusly will carry her and let her watch me shower. What privacy you talking about? No such thing as privacy now.

It’s endearing to know she only wants me. But nobody told me it’ll be so so hard.

Yogyakarta 2015

Day 1:
Arrived Jogja in the afternoon and it was scorching hot. No haze though!
In fact the air was relatively clean. Cleaner than Bandung actually. Maybe cos traffic wasn’t as crazy as Bandung / Jakarta.

We didn’t arrange for any transport so we took an Airport Taxi (RP$70,000) to our hotel in Malioboro. We stayed in a Budget Hotel cos my family are the sort who won’t splurge on hotel stays and rather have the hotel super near to main town. So opposite me but kasi chance lah cos once a year anyway. Although i was cursing after the 1st night cos the hotel bed was so damn hard, my back hurts and they don’t have a cot so we had to squeeze Nadya in between. Ahhhhhh…

We didn’t do much during the 1st day. Ate lunch at Duta Minang (not nice), shopped at Malioboro (bought a lot of baju butterfly hahahaha) and then we took Nadya on her 1st Trishaw Ride and Horse Carriage Ride!

She was awake during the trishaw ride and seems curious at the passing traffic but she was asleep during the Horse Carriage ride. Continue reading “Yogyakarta 2015”

DIY Project

sew fun!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll notice my new hobby. Sewing!
I bought a cheap sewing machine few weeks after i gave birth cos i wanted to try sewing headbands for Nadya. Oh i sewed plenty and sold most of them off already!

And then i started sewing shoes for her and drool pads for my Tula Carrier!

Recently i got a little adventurous and made Nadya her 1st dress!

2015-08-12 18.21.49

and then because the 1st dress was a success, i got motivated to sew more. i began looking around for patterns and then printing it out and got a little busy with the sewing machine.

2015-08-22 14.55.03I sewed 4 dressed for her in a week! Crazy me. But it is so addictive!

IMG_4790Like sewing, buying fabric is also addictive! I’ve also take to buying wrap scraps now! Oh what did i get myself into?!

Dyan-Razali-Nadia-217My little shinku is 7 months old now. Yes, i call her shinku at home and i have no idea what it means and how it started but i just call her that. Don’t judge me! I like making up names for fun.

So now, where do we start? 2015-08-25 13.10.04
The part where i can see her two upper teeth slowly descending?
You know i gotta pat this girl’s back. Each time she’s teething, i don’t realise it that much cos she does not make that much fuss or run a fever. Alhamdulillah.
Ni bukan eksyen anak aku kuat gila macam juara eh. But really, twice it caught me offguard cos she showed no signs except for excessive drooling but then again, she’s always been an excessive drooler seh.

2015-08-24 15.32.48The part where she kind of know how to feed herself. Kind of, because she’s always making a mess! Makan sikit, bersepah2 makanan. She’s on semi-baby led weaning. I don’t count on BLW for her to get her nutritions. More like a time where she can explore food & texture and hone her motor skills. Most of the time i still feed her with porridge etc. More about her food in another post! Oooh it’s an adventure on it’s own!

IMG_5131

Baby can finally sit on her own! Tengok tu dia duduk macam taukeh.
She goes on all four but does not seem to move forward or backward yet. Engine belum panas so kita biarkan je lah dia.

IMG_4832I got her this Exersaucer cos i cannot tahan dia lompat2 everytime i carry her. Waaaahhh my peha i tell you macam kena lenyek2. Kalau makin kecik peha aku ni takpe lah jugak. And in case you’re wondering what’s that thing on her head, i got her Em’s 4 Bubs Earmuffs for her cos we wanna bring to concerts / jamming sessions & movies safely. Many times i wanna bring her but i get paranoid, takut if it’s too loud for her and also if it might hurt her delicate eardrums. But what to do, she’s got a clingy mom who’s always at noisy places! Lol.

In case you’re interested in the earmuffs as well, get them off Amazon! They’re cheaper! You can also buy it from the official website but the shipping from Australia is a killer! At least with Amazon, sambil u order anything from other US Websites, boleh selitkan ni sekali. I also chose Em’s cos of the elastic band. It’s soft and does not hurt her head. The other earmuffs for babies looks slightly restrictive so i’m guessing it might hurt her a bit.

Nadya can recognise the people she sees all the time. I can leave her at my parent’s place and she’ll not cry or look for me. However, if i leave her with strangers, she’ll start looking around, just to make sure i’m nearby. She is fine with strangers picking her up and many times we get the “ehhhh tak takut orang ehhh” remarks and this girl sometimes tak malu one kind, she’ll smile at other people tak pasal2 orang tu kena senyum balik kat dia!

We were at the polyclinic previously for her jab and then she kept smiling at this grumpy apek next to her and he had to smile back at her unwillingly. hahahahha. It was so hilarious to watch!

And you know people keep telling me ohhh she’ll start to sleep lesser when she’s above 6mths cos that’s when they start being really active? She woke up at 12.00 noon today! Melampau anak aku! And that was after i kind of forced her to wake up cos dah kul 12, tak mandi2 and and belum feed etc. She’ll usually wake up between 10am – 12noon from her night sleep and then take a short nap at about 3.00pm and another nap at 7.00pm.

And because she had enough rest, she moves all the time when she’s awake. I’m tempted to go get the fenced play pen thing cos she kept going to the kitchen! Ooooh chasing after a baby is tiring!

IMG_4894

We do all these stupid things to her all the time. Because this is the only time we can get away with it!

Family Shoot

Previous post i mentioned about us going for the Family Shoot at Krabi.
Instead of engaging a photpgrapher and then bringing him there & pay for his air ticket & flight, we engaged a local instead. I googled and stalked Instagram and i found Nut on Instagram! Love his pictures although i was a bit wary as to those whether pictures were really his ke tak. But i took that leap of faith & paid an initial deposit.

On the photoshoot day, it was raining cats & dogs when we were still shooting in our room and then heavy rain when we were on the way to our photoshoot destination. Nut was really patient though and certainly not calculative. We initially booked him for 2 hours cos we don’t want Nadya to get tired or bored but it went on for almost 3 hours and Nut didn’t even ask for additional payments.

Here’s some of my favourite with Nadya.

We planned the photoshoot in the evening from 4pm – 6pm cos Nadya would be fully rested by then and she’s usually quite active during that timing. Definitely not a morning person this girl!

I am so glad we did this for this trip. Krabi is one of our favourite place so it was quite apt to have our 1st family shoot there.

We’re thinking of doing another family shoot when Nadya turns 1 and maybe we’ll do it on our 1st trip for 2016 which is super close to Nadya’s 1st Birthday and Rusly’s Birthday because we’re heading to…

Tokyo – Japan!!!!
It’ll be winter when we’re there in February so i don’t know how feasible it would be to have an outdoor shoot during winter, with a kid. Hahahaha. We shall see!
Although friends been telling me Winter in Tokyo is not very bad but we’re hoping to get some snow! Ok more about Tokyo planning in another entry lah ok!

Ending this post with my favourite family picture! Dyan-Razali-Nadia-45
