Tokyo Day 3 (Mori Tower)

Right after our Mount Fuji day trip, we reached Tokyo Station at about 6+pm and then switched trains to Roppongi cos it’s only few stations away.

Firstly to have our dinner at Sumiyakiya, another halal place that serves Japanese & Korean BBQ.

IMG_7962

To be honest i only like some of the beef cuts, i can’t even remember which though..Sorry! The fried rice was okay lah.. The marinates for the beef was quite nice but if you ask me, i prefer Gyumon. Also, we got lost searching for this place pasal Google Map main2 kan kita. Padahal it was so so near to Roponggi Hills seh.
We jalan sampai the residential area and all. Penat seh. But thing about walking in Tokyo during winter, you don’t feel rimas cos it’s cooling. Jalan ah jauh2 pun tak rasa like mandi peluh. Rasa kaki nak tercabut je.

Then we head over to Mori Tower cos i wanted to see Tokyo skyline at night.
It was either during sunset or night lah actually tak cerewet. But because we couldn’t squeeze in Mori Tower for sunset, we went up at night instead. DSC03989

The rooftop observation deck is closed at night so we had to make do with the Tokyo City View deck which is also a gallery. Nadya had fun running around, kacau orang buat kerja & all.

DSC03985

It’s such a pretty sight. Tokyo is so vibrant at night and we got to see the Tokyo Tower all lighted up.

DSC03996

We headed back to the apartment after that after the long day! Took the taxi home cos the legs cannot take it already. Especially cos i babywore Nadya the entire day.

Will update our next Tokyo adventure soon. Else you can read up all other Tokyo posts here.

Tips & Tricks (Baby / Toddler Meals)

I’ve been wanting to do a post on this but as always, it remains in the darkest corner of my draft post for the longest time.

Now i’m not an expert on baby food, like urmm Annabel Karmel. But i’ve served food for Nadya for more than 6 months now and that ought to count for something eh?

My requirements for Nadya’s food:
* Homemade
* No salt
* No preservatives
* Must be appealing enough for me to eat as well.

So i end up cooking Nadya’s food myself all the time. Now i know some people might think it’s easy for me since i stay home all the time but it’s ok if you’re a FTWM. Just cook weekends or after u get home from office for their dinner. My meals for Nadya are usually quite simple. Very fuss-free and don’t take longer than 20 minutes usually.

The secret is actually simple.

  1. Plan ahead
  2. Buy vegetables that stay fresh longer
  3. Portion your poultry & vegetable into smaller packs.
  4. Buy Salt-Free Seasonings. (They’ll save your life.)

PLANNING AHEAD

Don’t laugh but i excel a meal plan for Nadya and for adult meals as well.

Meal Plan

No i’m not entirely OCD but i just like planning ahead and also it helps if you’re just starting solids for your child. Keep track of what they eat so that if any allergy reaction comes up, you can somehow pinpoint it to the food they ate. or if they are having constipation or their poo colour seems a bit off, you know it’s partly cos of the food they ate. That’s how i found out their poo, after they eat dragonfruit is unsightly guysssss.

STOCK UP ON THE VEGETABLES /  FOOD THAT LASTS FOREVER.

Also stock up on vegetables that are versatile. The kind that you can stir-fry, roast, boil or chuck it in the porridge. Takde hal bro. Semua boleh.

These are my favourite go-to vegetables/food to keep & use for Nadya’s meals.

  1. Carrots.
They last forever or at least till sogginess do us part.
Really versatile. You can put them in soups, porridge, stirfry, put them in fried rice, baked rice and i can go on and on. If your baby can eat fingerfood on their own, just coat them with Coconut Oil & Salt Free seasonings and let them munch on it.
  2. Potatoes.
Just as versatile as carrots. One of my current favourite thing to do with potatoes is to cut them in wedges, season them with salt free seasonings and then airfry them. Nadya can eat. I also can eat. I also like making potato patties, mashed potatoes or put them in porridge / soups.
  3. Eggs
You don’t know the many times these eggs saved my life. Eggs are really good for quick meals like French Toasts / Egg Muffins / Egg Banana Pancake. I swear i’ll write down the recipe for egg muffins one of these days. I just noticed i’ve not posted it up for #NadyaNomNomNom anywhere. Baaaah.
But back to eggs, you can make scramble eggs / omelettes and put them in sushi. or let them eat with rice. Else if you’re up for something nicer, do a Frittata! It’s one of our favourites!
  4. Chicken / Beef
I like them minced cos it’s easier for Nadya to eat and also cos you can do more dishes with it. Like Rice with Basil Chicken , Chicken Patties, Beef Balls & more.
  5. Brocolli
Just like Carrots & Potatoes, brocollis are quite fool proof and can stay long in the fridge. Most of the time i add them in patties or stirfry them with beef / chicken. I’ll throw them in porridge as well.
  6. Cheese
Everything tastes nicer with cheese. At least for Nadya.
You can make steamed cheesy rice or cheesy baked rice. Risotto as well if you’re a lil bit more adventurous. Sometimes i let Nadya snack on them. Especially cream cheese! Those are her favourites.
  7. Pasta
I’ve started giving Nadya full sized macaronis. No more cutting it into half and she’ll still chomp it down. So Pasta is now one of her staple dish. If you have excess home made pasta sauce, serve it with meatballs. Else just do a stirfry traffic light macaroni!

PORTION YOUR FOOD

Now this is something i’ve done since i’ve got married. Cos i always cook for two and i hate thawing a huge chunk of meat each time, i portion everything right after grocery shopping.

2016-02-22 14.14.19

I buy ziplock bags from SKP and portion them like this.

  1. It’s neater when you store them in the fridge (OCD alert!)
  2. They stay fresher longer cos u don’t thaw the entire thing, cut a bit and then freeze again.
  3. You can keep stock better. You know how many chicken / beef you have left before you start stocking up.

For Nadya, i portion them in smaller bag cos she don’t eat as much as we do anyway.
I also keep stuff like Pasta sauce that i’ve made in ice-cube trays. That way i can use them as & when i want without making a fresh new batch all the time.

BUY SALT-FREE SEASONINGS

2016-02-16 13.36.40

These are for lazy days. Period.
You can use them for anything! Marinate salmon / chicken fillet with them and then airfry them. You can season your patties with them. Stirfry your pastas with them. You can do so many things with them. Lazy? Just season and cook. They’re salt-free so they’re perfect for babies / toddlers.

2016-02-15 14.49.00

Just like this lazy-ass meal i made for Nadya. Hahahaha
I made rice balls for her, marinated the chicken fillet and she finished everything up. Don’t care as long got food.

So yeah, making meals for babies & toddlers are pretty simple actually. I’m all for giving them healthy food. Clean food especially. No unnecessary salt, sugar & preservatives needed. Sometimes i give her cheat days lah but most of the time she eats what i cook and you need to ask me for permission before you feed her anything. Thanks.

One is for health reason of course cos her organs are still developing so i don’t wanna ruin whatever is in there. Secondly, if i start giving her salt & sugar too early, she’ll reject the not so nice food, like vegetables. Oh the horrors! Mummy here loves her vegetables so she cannot refuse vegetables.

But this is my personal choice. What you feed your children is none of my business, really.

But i hope this list can help you to manage cooking for your babies & toddlers better! I’ve stopped listing down the #NadyaNomNomNom series monthly here in this blog but i still post them on Instagram & Facebook. You can follow us there instead.

Happy cooking!

Tokyo Day 3 (Mount Fuji)

Continuing my Tokyo Post. you can read previous posts here.

We woke up really early for this Day tour cos we gotta be at Keio Plaza Hotel by 8.30 am and we don’t want to be late and say bye bye to our money.

I bought the Mount Fuji & Hakone Day Tour package from Japanican.
We chose the package with a return trip via the bullet train (Shinkansen). It’s ¥16,000 (S$200.00) per pax so we paid S$400.00 in total for the package. It’s free for infants.
They have adjusted the price to ¥17,000 (S$211.00) now and you can also check out other tours organised by them here. They have a local office in Takashimaya Singapore but we only purchased the Disneyland tickets from them and purchased the Mt Fuji package online cos it’s cheaper by about $30+.

We took a cab to Keio Plaza Hotel even though it’s only 10 minutes walk away cos i didn’t wanna take the chance, get lost and then miss the bus.

There’s a convenience store at Keio Plaza so we bought some onigiri and stuff ourselves silly after we’ve reported our attendance.

This budak kecik also kepo. Want to register people.

DSC03790DSC03794DSC03809DSC03812

Our 1st stop is Lake Kawaguchi. Apparently during Spring you can see Lavenders everywhere. Cos it’s winter, everything is dried up here. And you can actually see Mount Fuji here. It was quite early when we reached so there was a huge cloud shadowing the shy Mount Fuji.

DSC03826

They brought us to a Resort Theme Park area for lunch. We requested for Seafood & Vegetables only. Also confirmed that the broth is not meat-based. The lunch was ok ok lah. Asalkan kenyang cos i don’t think we got other options to eat somewhere else.

DSC03817DSC03818DSC03823The theme park looks quite cool ah actually. They have one of those crazy japanese roller coaster (that i will never queue up for!) hahahaha.

DSC03837

DSC03834

They brought us to another Mount Fuji viewing point and we could see the Mount Fuji but i can’t seem to capture it on camera. I don’t know why seh.

DSC03850DSC03852DSC03864

Our next destination is Lake Ashi where we took a Cruise Ferry. It’s a short ride but really peaceful surrounded by calm waters. The ferry also took us to the Ropeway Station.

You know i didn’t actually research how the Ropeway would look like. I thought it’s like the usual Cable Car we always take to go Genting Highlands. Turns out to be bigger and can fit at least 40-50 pax inside and it is so so stable. I couldn’t feel it swaying ke apa. Amazing.

DSC03881
DSC03890View from the Ropeway. The ride took about 7 minutes. Most of the trees had icicles on them. Too pretty. Macam cerita Frozen.

DSC03891DSC03918DSC03934DSC03905

SNOW BLANKET EVERYWHERE!!!! *twirls around*

To be honest, i wasn’t expecting to see snow. I know it’ll be cold gila. And yes cold gila indeed at -18 deg. Brrrrr… But according to the tour guide, there were snowfalls 3 days before. I was freezing guys my face so stiff macam baru cocok botox but we were kinda prepared for it. Tampal heat packs & all. I just had to. It’s not just cold cold, but the wind was really cold as well. Anyway, i was reading on Mount Fuji and learned that climbing up Mount is only safe between July to August. It is deemed unsafe to go anytime other than those two months cos of the extreme weather conditions. It can be as low as -40 deg at night. There were also cases of people blown off the mountains by the strong wind. Scary shit mannnn.

I wrapped Nadya like a ketupat ok. So scared she’ll be too cold but member chill je. Cos i had her in the baby carrier so she was really warm & cosy in there.
There was another toddler up there and he was crying so hard due to the cold. I felt so bad for him and i resisted the urge to shake the mother and tell her to get her ass up back to the sheltered area cos her son was obviously too cold. Then there’s another angmoh couple, with a baby in a stroller up there. Relax je. Konon jalan2 kat shopping centre. Hahahaha.

IMG_7929IMG_7934

The sun was setting as we left Mount Fuji to take the Shinkansen! The tour guide brought us to the station itself and then he went to the ticketing office, got himself a pass and brought us to the platform and told us to wait for the next train to Tokyo!

I was really excited cos at that same time, a Shinkansen just drove past us and it was so fast lah!! It came & left the station in 7 seconds. I was recording it on my phone. That’s why i know. Hahahahaha

We didn’t take any pictures in Shinkansen cos we were so so tired seh. Panjat gunung and all. Lol.

But honestly it felt just like taking a normal train. No actually it is quieter than a normal train. Even quieter than our MRT. Just yesterday i took the MRT and i was thinking asal MRT ni bising sgt. Tak macam Shinkansen langsung. Ngada2. Sepak kang.

That’s the end of our Mount Fuji Day tour. Will continue Day 3 in the next post!

Tokyo Day 2 (Asakusa)

We were supposed to head over to Disneyland on our 2nd Day but guess what.. we woke up late and by the time we went out of the apartment, it was about 9.45am. We went to Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal which is just next to Takashimaya Times Square and tried to get the direct bus to Disneyland. But their last bus was 9.50am.
-___-

I remember i jot that down somewhere but i forgot where. Kaoooo.
So yeah, we shifted our itinerary around and decided on heading to Asakusa instead!

We head down to Ippin Asakusa for lunch. Ippin is by Les Copaque, the same production company that produces Malaysia’s famous cartoon duo, Upin & Ipin. Hence the name Ippin, i think.

DSC03597

DSC03587

The Ramen is good! Love the broth.. It’s simple but hearty. It wasn’t very spicy but i was ok with it cos it didn’t spoil the taste of the broth. Rusly ordered a rice set with some fried chicken and the chicken is so lembut, omg i’ve never tasted chicken that lembut!

DSC03583

Turns out they only use this Kumamoto Chicken which is bred 2-3 times longer than normal chicken. It is really so lembut even the breast part, which is usually not our favourite cos it’s dry, is so sedap & lembut.

What made it even nicer was because Nadya slept through the entire lunch session. Hahaha. No attention seeking toddler to steal our food. I feel so bad for saying this. Hahahaha.

IMG_7606

My two sweethearts. Taken in Asakusa. ❤

DSC03624

We then head over to Sensoji temple which is few steps away from Asakusa Station.
There’s nothing much really. We end up walking through the Nakamise Shopping Street.

DSC03602

There’s mostly souvenirs. Lotsa them! We didn’t buy any souvenir though. But if you’re looking at buying stuff like paper fans, kimono etc, they sell it here and i think it’s cheaper here? I don’t know.

DSC03604
DSC03607

Bought ice cream! I know, i know. Ice cream during winter. But not bad uhhh. You’re already so cold, makan je lah.

DSC03647

We sat around and people watch and waited for the sun to set. It was beautiful.

Asakusa has this old charm vibes to it that i like. Yes, it’s not vibrant as Shibuya but Asakusa is worth a visit!

DSC03727

We headed back to Shibuya cos i wanna people watch again. This time at the famous Shibuya Crossing!

Took that shot from L’Occittane Cafe, just across the Shibuya Crossing!

DSC03774

I had the nicest Creme Brulee here. We went in with no expectations. I just wanted to sit down & watch the Shibuya Crossing. The other option would be Starbucks but since L’Occitane Cafe is something we don’t have here, i thought why not?!

After walking for abit at Shibuya, we head back to Shinjuku. I was looking for Shinjuku Sakae Sushi but after going round & round, turns out the place is no longer there. Sighhhhhh.

IMG_7752

So after doing so many rounds, we settled down for the nearest sushi joint, Kizuna Sushi.

That Unagi is huge! We also ordered Grilled squid. Didn’t manage to take pictures of it cos it was so nice, we gobbled it fast and that fatty tuna is so yums.

IMG_7753

We gave Nadya the Tamago (Egg). Look at that face. That Tamago ada happy pill agaknya.
Nadya mostly eat whatever we eat there. But no raw food of course.

We head back to our apartment after that after a long day.

IMG_7768

Hello! Meet Nadya-san.

Our Little Family, The Travel Tales

Tokyo Day 1 (Gyumon)

First dinner for our Tokyo trip gotta be Gyumon! It’s like a must-go for all muslims when they go over to Tokyo! Now i know why. It was so so good we end up eating twice there.

Directions to Gyumon by Farhana here was helpful!
We managed to reach the place safely following her pictorial instruction.

IMG_7562

Shibuya! Well, the restaurant is located at Shibuya. Just make sure you exit from the Hachiko Exit.

The Halal Menu is limited. I’ll be honest. But really you don’t need 20 other meal options if that one option available is darn good!

We both chose the ¥4,000 (S$50.00) Halal BBQ Set cos we’re not really head over heels about chicken meat. Beef? YES PLEASE!

Macam nak bbq si Nadya ni pun ada.

DSC03516

And you know what else is da bomb? That sambal! I know, it’s so weird to go gaga over sambal. In japan. Kau dah kenapa dyan?
But i’m not kidding you, that sambal, eat with hot rice & bbq beef. Ya Allah, nikmatnya! Especially during winter. We kept asking for that sambal seh. Perangai.

DSC03533

So nice! It’s not even heavily marinated. Tapi sedap gila. I don’t know what they feed their cows over there. Asal daging dorang sedap sangat ni.

They are opened from 5.00pm – 4.00pm except for sunday where they operate from 5.00pm – 12.00am. I would suggest you come early, like 6.00pm. Especially on weekends cos we saw them turning away some customers cos there were no available seats.

The second time we were there, we occupied a table that was meant for 6 pax and they also turned away some customers even though there were space for 4 pax on our table. We had to tell the waiter to ask them if they wanna share our table cos so kesian walk all the way in the cold then kena turn away. Turns out to be a Singaporean family so we made new friends!

Talking about making new friends, we saw a few Muslim families there in Tokyo.
Rusly & me are quite friendly lah, i would say. Especially Rusly. I know he look very garang but he always make it a point to say hello to people and then initiate conversations. I take a little bit more time cos i like to study people first (I know, i’m so judgemental sometimes! )

But you know, many times we smiled at other muslim travellers, they looked at us funny seh. Macam “dekni apahal“. Why sehhhh.

But oh wells.

Random Ramblings

Home Alone

Ok technically not alone cos Nadya’s sleeping in the room.
but yeah, Rusly’s away for his jamming session and won’t be back till after midnight. Nadya slept at about 8.00pm just now. It’s already 11.00pm now and i just had 3hrs of uninterrupted me-time.

Oh-maiiiii.
U’ll learn to appreciate me-time when you’re a mom. Nadya is cute gila but really sometimes i just want a break from all the baby talk and cleaning up after her.

So what did i do during that 3 hour?
Caught up with Pretty Little Liars, binge on some snacks we brought back from Tokyo, M&Ms & air-fried some crabsticks. So yummy.

2016-02-11 21.39.05

Is it also weird that sometimes i prefer being alone and refuse to talk to anyone or reply messages? Like the other day, Rusly told me to call the part-time maid to come over and help me with the unpacking from our trip and i refused. Cos i don’t want to talk to anybody. I just needed some quiet time and do things at my own pace.

The maid came in today though. I give up. Too many laundry to do.
I hate laundry.

Our Little Family, The Travel Tales

Tokyo Day 1 (Shinjuku)

We’re back from Tokyo!!! Our first trip for 2016.
Yes, i’m really confident i can persuade Rusly for another 2016 trip. Heehee.

Really enjoyed our time in Tokyo, mostly cos of the weather, although the 1st day was really hard for me to adapt cos i don’t really like being in the cold. My husband loves it though. Even Nadya loves it seh! I’m the only one in the party who’s always rubbing her hands together, constantly moving just so i can generate heat. -___-

1

We took the flight out at 23:50hrs via Singapore Airlines and landed the next day at 07:15hrs. We arrived Tokyo at -2 degrees, according to the pilot. Not sure if he was kidding but it sure felt like it! Probably cos it’s still in the morning and all. Narita Airport is not as huge as Changi Airport so it was pretty easy to navigate around, pick up our baggage and to the ticket counter.

We chose to take the Narita Express (NEX) train to Shinjuku. We did toy with the idea of taking the limousine bus but after a 6-hour flight, i wanna chop2 get to our apartment. Especially cos our AirBNB host was nice enough to give us an early check in at 12:00 noon instead of 3:00pm.

The NEX tickets are at 4,000 yen (S$50.00) per adult, if you buy a round ticket. Just go to the ticket counter and tell them the timing you want, to & fro. It stops at some of the major stations like Tokyo, Shibuya & Shinjuku so it’s quite convenient if you’re staying at these areas. Trains come in intervals of 30 minutes but all seats are reserved so if you booked for the 9.30am train, please don’t pandai-pandai take the next train or something.

And the trains are really punctual. Right on the dot. Japanese are really punctual people.
Even their subway timings very weird one. No such thing as round off to the nearest 5minutes. If it’s stated the train will leave at 03:11pm, it will definitely leave at 03:11pm. No exceptions.

We alighted at Shinjuku station and made our way to the New South Exit as per our host’s instruction. If you’re at Shinjuku, do know it is a huge train station. So huge and so many train lines & platforms and they have different exits everywhere. Different exits will take you to some other parts of Shinjuku and from one exit to another is about 5 – 7 minutes. So be mindful of the exits! It’ll make your life easier.

Our host gave us detailed instructions on how to get to the apartment but this woman here turned the map around and then we walked the other way and got lost. But a kind local lady stopped and asked if we needed help. So nice. She told us the right way and when we got on the right track, i was so delighted to find out that our apartment was really close to Shinjuku station. At least 5mins walk. It is such a convenient place. 3 mins to Takashimaya / Times Square & the Highway Bus Terminal. There’s 7-11 right down below where we spend our time buying snacks and drinking water for Nadya and terrorize the staff there to help us translate stuff like “Which one is Salmon Onigiri?” Lol.

DSC03477

The apartment is quite small actually but it was enough for us three. It’s really basic but then again, we only use the apartment to sleep and hide from the cold. So it was ok!
However, i would totally recommend the place if you’re visiting Tokyo. It’s fairly cheap, by Tokyo’s standard. The host is nice, the location is great, the place is clean. We’re happy!

Here’s the listing if you’re interested! The hosts have few other apartments for rent in the same building, in case you can’t book this one. My requirement for our accomodation is pretty simple. Must be few minutes away from Shinjuku station and have lift access in the building. Cos akak tak kuasa nak panjat tangga hari2. If i want to exercise, it’s not during the holiday. Tenks.

We settled down in the room by 1.00pm and i know we’re supposed to go out again by 4.00pm, check out the Takashimaya and all but we overslept. Actually i woke up in shock and thought it was already 7.30pm. Cos it was so dark outside! Turn out to be 5.00pm only. Hahahaha. The day is so short cos of winter so by 5+pm, its already dark. I swear Rusly pun terkejut cos  i screamed “B… dah lambat!! Dah malam!!!” hahahaha.

We washed up and made our way to Shinjuku station and figure out how to get to Shibuya. I downloaded few apps prior to the trip and they helped me survive the intimidating Tokyo Subway! So, download these apps before you go! You can read more here.

IMG_7537

We witnessed the peak hour. Busy sak.
Orang semua sibuk nak balik rumah from work. Kita sibuk nak gi makan daging.
We managed to get to Shibuya and then witnessed the Shibuya Crossing. Actually me & Rusly had fun watching people flood towards us and kept laughing at it. Hahaha. Seriously gila.

Next post on where we went for dinner. Yummy yummy dinner. So yummy we went twice!

Nadya’s First

We celebrated Nadya’s 1st Birthday on 16th January and i’ve been meaning to write about it but i’ve been busy clearing up artworks & admin stuff before we leave for our trip next week. So i’m squeezing in whatever i can!

Most of the stuff done for the birthday was DIY-ed by me. Because i’m the over-zealous mum. Think you figured that out already. Lol.

Will probably share in detail in another post what i DIY-ed and how. It’s cost-saving and fulfilling. But tiring!

We started setting up the place the night before, with help from my sisters and Wan.
We packed the favor bags etc, shifted the furnitures around, waited for the tables & chairs to arrive etc.

2016-01-17 12.28.38

DIY-ed by me. So nice to hear when people tell me they love the table set-up! I spent hours on the tutu skirting alone.. It’s at least 2.5 metres long. Phewwww.
Most of the deco & the glassware were bought through Taobao!

2016-01-17 12.33.00

The complete dessert table!

2016-01-16 16.14.09

Pretty pretty cake done by Tini from Ola Lola! This is so pretty, too pretty to cut eh. I gave Tini the freedom to do whatever she wants as long as it’s a Paddlepop Theme cos that’s the Birthday theme!

Ordered Cake Pops from Si Kidal Bakes. Meringue & Cookies from my SIL!
Everything was yummy and potong kaki. I think the kids had the most fun at the dessert table. So guilty for contributing to their sugar-rush. Lol

2016-01-17 13.33.57

Birthday girl making her appearance. I designed a print to go with the Paddlepop Theme and sent it for printing with Label of Love Studio. Tutu skirt from Taobao. So soft gila. I like it and Converse sneakers, so cute i cannot resist buying!

2016-01-17 12.15.37
Somehow, amidst all the mingling with guests and all, we kinda forgot to take a family picture! This is honestly the most decent picture we have together!

We also didn’t manage to take pictures with ALL our guests!! We even forgot to give some of them goodie bags. Hahaha. So tak senonoh seh.

2016-01-17 12.37.38

This playpen gotta be the most fun place ever for the kids. Even though it’s so small, they somehow managed to squeeze themselves in there. It’s so funnty cos most of the time, Nadya refuse to be locked in there and prefer roaming around the house instead but that day, she played with the other kakaks & abangs. Macam real only.

One with the birthday girl! Love her so so much! I know some peole say don’t bother with 1st Birthdays cos they don’t appreciate it but nadya was so happy that day! She was so smiley. No meltdowns and she played with the other kids. I think she felt a lil lonely after everyone left though. She kinda like the company. So kesian my baby, everyday tgk muka mak dia je. Sekali sekala ada friends datang rumah, macam so fun!

2016-01-16 22.04.40

She received lotsa presents! Be it toys, vouchers & cash. She was overwhelmed by all the gifts but we have no intention to open everything at once. Maybe 1 toy a month. So she gets to play everything and funny thing is, we received a lot of musical instrument toys for her. Hahahahaa. I must have told everybody i know, i want her to play music. Lolololol

It was tiring planning a party on your own, especially a DIY one but i figure this is a good time to celebrate her birthday and me surviving motherhood. So why not! We had fun and that’s all that matters!

But would we do another party for the next birthday? I don’t know mannnn..
Maybe we’ll wait till she start requesting for one.

A letter to my daughter

Dear Nadya,

It seems like it was only yesterday when the nurses placed you in my arms and i could remember saying to myself “she’s gorgeous and how come she’s so hairy. That must’ve been Rusly’s genes.”

But i couldn’t stop looking at you, baby. We finally met. Our blind date. ❤
The girl who’s been kicking my ribs from inside.. I can still remember those tiny little kicks. I’m so thankful to be able to carry you in my arms. So thankful that Allah chose me to nurture you, and hopefully be a good muslimah, Insha Allah.

Nadya, all this time, when i hear people talk about unconditional love, i don’t know how it feels like. What is this unconditional love that everyone’s talking about and then you came into my life and somehow i can’t put it into words. It’s indescribable. But that’s how i feel for you, baby. I’m that screwed up mum who kept saying I Love You so many times a day. The one who’ll miss you when you’re sleeping and at the end of the day, before i sleep, i’ll watch videos i took of you earlier in the day. But even that couldn’t describe just how much i love you.

I had a hard time conceiving, baby. We waited 3 years before i had you.
Mummy went through a laparoscopy surgery to remove bad stuff in my body. Someday, i’ll show you the scars. It was the best decision i made. At that time, i was so scared, baby. Scared if i’ll make the wrong decision. What if it does not work out? What if after doing the surgery, i still won’t be able to conceive a baby. What do i do next?

Just so you know, you were an IVF baby. You were that fighter little embryo who burrowed your way through because Allah wants you to be part of our family. Because He knows one day, you’ll complete our lives and bring joy to our very mundane routine. I remembered taking lotsa blood tests, did self injections (because i do not trust Papa with the needles. Honestly, you shouldn’t too.) I ate really healthy food and made sure to surround myself with positive energy. I was very sure that i’ll fall pregnant. I went through a crazy 2 weeks wait, wondering everyday if one of the embryos i’ve transferred will make it to the finishing line. All i ask for is for one embryo to fight for a chance to live in this world. With me & Papa. That fighter is you, baby.

Few days shy of my blood test, you don’t know how nervous i was. I was initially determined not to test myself and just wait for the blood test. But oh well, your mummy is impatient because i had a strong feeling i was pregnant. I was very sure but i didn’t know what to expect. But i’ll be lying if i tell you that i didn’t have high expectations.

For the first time, the pregnancy test showed positive. I was so happy, i took so many tests! I’ve never had a positive before, baby. This was the first. Finally i don’t have the word “NOT PREGNANT” staring back at me. You don’t know the many times it made me cry looking at that horrible word. Not forgetting just how expensive those digital tests were! But yaaaaayyy i was pregnant, for real. The 1st time i heard your heartbeat, i had to control my tears. It was so surreal when the doctor said that your heartbeat is strong and everything else looks normal. Ya Allah, syukur sangat-sangat.

6 Weeks

That’s you, when you were a tiny little foetus. That was the 1st time i kind of saw you from far. I love you already, baby. It was indeed love at 1st sight.

My 1st bump shot with you when i was 16 weeks. I didn’t even realised i had a bump. I thought i was… fat.

And then i went on taking lotsa other baby bump picture because you made me feel good and look good! Hahaha

My last bump-shot with you! I was preparing the nursery cos it’s one week away to your arrival and i was silently hoping you won’t show up earlier than you should cos your nursery wasn’t complete. (Your papa told me i look like a pregnant vietnamese maid in that pyjamas. He’s rude.)

Hours before you arrived! You gave me an easy pregnancy. I don’t think i even threw up. I had normal headaches but that’s it. No insane cravings either. You also gave me a quite drama-free labour. Everything went quite smoothly, Alhamdulillah.

And then you finally arrived on 14 January 2015 at 8.27pm. After 8 hours of labour. It was painful but no regrets at all. You came out at 3.215 kg and 53cm. So tiny and cute.

I miss those peesh-ball cheeks.

Today, you’re 1 year old. I love you more than ever.
Everyday i look forward to doing new things with you. I smile when i see you give me that cheeky smile. It’s been a great 1 year, baby.

The best 1 year i’ve had. True, it’s challenging. At times, i get so frustrated with my new job as a mummy. It’s not you baby. It’s me.

But you taught me patience. Many times, you tested my patience too. Lol.
Each day i pray that Allah keep you safe from harm and hope that he’ll  never take you away from me and keep you close to me all the time.

I’m not the best mummy around but i promise i’ll try my best. Someday, i would want to hear you telling your friends “my mummy is the best mummy in the world.”

Someday, baby.

Here’s to 1 year of us being together.
1 year worth of cuddles & kisses.
1 year of achieving milestones.
1 year of me surviving motherhood.

When you cry, please know i’ll always be there to wipe your tears.
It brightens my day when you’re happy and i always look forward to see you smile.

Happy Birthday, Nadya Raessa.
I love you. So, so much.

11 months

Just 1 day before her 1st birthday. I better pen down her 11 mths milestones before i can’t catch up with everything.

I think the most exciting thing to happen at 11 months, Nadya took her 1st few steps few days after turning 11 mths. Yaaaaaay.
The funny thing was we bought her a pushwalker a day before that, thinking that she can learn how to balance herself etc. End up being a white elephant seh.

So yeah, sometimes she prefers not to be carried and will arch her back till you let her go. Baaaahhhh. So hard to take pictures now!
Few minutes after we took these candid shots, she fell flat on her face and hurt her lip. So kesian but also padan muka. Hahahaha. Kidding.
Tu lah tak nak dengar cakap mak. I say i carry you, so u just ikut je k next time? :p

Sidetrack a bit, that baju kurung was made for her when she was 6mths old. Now it’s so sendat and pendek. Still so cute though. .

The Robocop walk. #NadyaRaessa #11mths

A post shared by Dyan Razali (@deardyan) on

We call this the Robocop Walk because that’s just how it is! Hahaha.
it’s really funny cos she’s still finding her balance but now she’s slightly better and she can walk even faster and when she knows you’re coming after her, she’ll walk even faster! Hahaha confident abis ah this one.

She talks a lot too and sometimes, she’ll repeat after me. When i sing Twinkle Twinkle, she’ll finish up with the ending words like “starrrr.” “areee”
and then today she said Banana. Her favourite fruit evaaah.

She knows how to say Papa as well. Totally ignoring how to say Mummy though. I so sad. Dah lah muka photocopy Papa dia. Then now this.
Life is so unfair.

and you know what? She finaaaaaalllly know how to do that Goodbye wave. I was wondering what took her so long and realized that she’ll never learn cos we don’t say Goodbye to her. She’ll still sleep when Rusly is off to work and she clings on to me like Koala Bear. We go everywhere together. Bila masanya nak bid goodbye? So i tried and wave goodbye to het and she picked that up after few times. So it made me realize again just how much they can absorb and how they’ll emulate us so i’m realllly careful with the things i do or say.

Notice something? God, it’s so embarrassing when she does this, especially in public places. hahaha. Eh mana datang ni perangai tak senonoh ni? Lol

She’s also turning out to be quite the scream-o. Will scream if you don’t give her things she wants / if she can’t reach for the things she wants. I know this is not a testament to how she’ll be when she grows up but i hope she’ll mellow down a bit when she’s older. Else, i’ll have second thoughts about having the 2nd one. Lolololololol.

I’m already scared for her terrible two phase. And she’s not even 1 yet.

I heart this girl a lot. We spend a lot of time together. Yet i miss her when she sleeps. I’m a clingy mother.

Baby is turning 1 tomorrow. Baaaah so fast, i know.
We’re doing a small party for her and i can’t believe i’m saying this but i can’t wait for the partyyyy!
