off to penang!

Ok not off to Penang, Malaysia per se but yesterday, after jamming, the mother-in-law told us she wanna drop by our place to lepak2 while my father-in-law go do some errands and i asked if she has any cravings and she mentioned Laksa Penang.

I love Laksa Penang! Not a fan of the Laksa Johor though.
In fact, i’m not a fan of most dishes that has santan in it.

So i googled for a Laksa Penang Recipe and found a reliable one.

Now, i love Laksa Penang but nak buat Laksa Penang, walaupun senang tapi part nak kopek ikan and hancur2 kan punya lah leceh.

i took 1hr 30mins to complete the whole cooking session.
the things i do for my mother-in-law sometimes. lol

Laksa Penang Recipe Unlocked!

I swear this is a major achievement for me cos i’m not so much of a “suka masak lauk melayu”. My father always make fun of my lauk melayu.

Cos bila belum kahwin, sibuk asyik masak Pasta lah, sushi lah..
Kari, asam pedas ni semua satu benda tak tau.

Dah kahwin, pandai pulak nak belajar and the trick is to not be too anal about the measurements. Just follow your gut feeling and you’re good to go!

Anyway, this dish is awesome for you BTB yang nak jaga badan because it is healthy. It has no oil at all, no coconut cream and best of all it’s tasty.

So if you ever wanna try this, here’s the recipe.

Penang Assam Laksa:

Bahan-Bahan Kuah Laksa
3 – 4 ekor ikan kembong
5 – 6 keping asam keping
2 sudu besar cili kisar
1 genggam daun kesom (laksa leaves)
2 kuntum bunga kantan, belah 2
2 biji bawang besar* (Kisar halus)
2.5 inci belacan*(*kisar halus)
Garam dan gula

GARNISHING:
Taugeh, buang ekor, cuci dan toskan
Timun, dihiris halus memanjang
Hirisan cili merah/cili hijau
Hirisan halus kobis @ daun salad
Hirisan halus bawang besar
BAHAN-BAHAN LAIN
Mi Laksa
limau kasturi
Telur, direbus dan belah dua
Sambal belacan (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS:
  1. UNTUK KUAH :- Ikan direbus, asingkan air rebusannya.
    Asingkan isi ikan tadi dan tumbuk hancur.
    Masukkan air rebusan dan air secukupnya ke dalam periuk.
    Masukkan bahan kisar halus dan cili kisar.
    Kacau rata dan masak hingga mendidih.
  2. Masukkan asam gelugor, isi ikan, daun kesom dan bunga kantan.
    Tuang air sedikit lagi jika perlu.
    Masak dengan api sederhana hingga mendididh.
    Tambah garam secukup rasa dan secubit gula.
    Masak sekejap lagi dan rasa. Jika ok boleh matikan api.
  3. Letak all the garnishings, serve and eat!

    1. Oh you should! it’s really easy babe. everthing just campak in the ppot and leave it to boil. lol

      except for the part u had to asing kan isi ikan. ok that is boring. hahaha
